Foot Surgery in Malaga

Foot surgery is the treatment alternative when it is not possible to solve the problem with conservative treatment.

The pathologies detected by the podiatrist in Malaga susceptible to be treated by surgery are very varied, the most frequently performed are:

Bunion Surgery.
Claw toe surgery.
Metatarsal Surgery.
Plantar Warts Surgery.
Nail Surgery and Subungual Exostosis.
Morton’s neuroma surgery.
Plantar fasciitis surgery.
Flat Foot Surgery.

The surgical techniques used are not very aggressive, but before making the decision to undergo surgery, a visit must be made to assess the patient’s pathology. During this visit, we can explain to the patient the technique used, the patient’s medical history, the objectives, the budget, etc. The necessary preoperative tests are as follows:

Blood tests: complete blood count, biochemistry and coagulation study.
X-ray: (in load) Dorso-Plantar, Lateral and oblique.

We are a team of Podiatric Surgeons, with extensive experience in foot surgery, using novel surgical techniques, where priority is given to the absence of post-surgical pain and a good functional and biomechanical result of the foot, so that the patient can return to normal activity as soon as possible.

The surgeries are performed in the operating theatres of the Malaga and Marbella Hospitals.

Foot surgery usually does not require hospitalization, as it is performed on an outpatient basis, and once the procedure is completed, the patient goes home.

In most cases we use local anesthesia. In more complicated cases or those requiring a longer surgical time, Epidural or Sciatic Nerve anesthesia is used.

Most of the interventions do not require the use of any type of osteosynthesis material. Only the osteoarticular surgery will need to be fixed with screws, plates… All this will be clarified with the patient in the 1st preoperative visit.

Although it depends a lot on the patient’s problem, the surgery usually does not last more than 2 hours.

Recovery after surgery ranges from one week in nail surgeries to one month in osteoarticular surgery. The postoperative period, thanks to the techniques we use, is practically painless and very bearable, where the patient can walk using a postoperative shoe as soon as he/she leaves the operating room.
