07 May How to take care of your feet during the Seville Fair: recommendations from a podiatrist
The Seville Fair is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year. Colors, music, sevillanas, and joy fill the Real… but also long walks, many hours standing, and shoes that, while stylish, are not always the best ally for our foot health.
As we do every year, our clinic wants to offer you the best recommendations so you can enjoy the Fair without compromising your foot health. Because yes, it’s possible to live the Feria to the fullest and make it to the end of the week without chafing, blisters, or unnecessary pain.
Why do your feet hurt so much during the fair?
A combination of factors—such as the sandy surface, wearing unfamiliar or tight shoes, and long hours of walking and dancing—contribute to a variety of issues:
-
Blisters and chafing
-
Muscle overload
-
Metatarsal pain (in the ball of the foot)
-
General swelling from poor circulation

You have the power to prevent these problems. With some simple care before, during, and after the fair, you’ll be able to dance to the rhythm of sevillanas without suffering.
Before the fair: Get your feet ready!
-
Visit a podiatrist if you’ve had previous discomfort or want a general check-up.
-
Trim your nails straight across, not rounded at the edges, to avoid ingrown toenails.
-
Moisturize your feet daily with specialized creams, especially heels and pressure points.
-
Don’t wear brand-new shoes to the Fair: break them in at least a week beforehand.
-
Use thin insoles or gel pads to distribute pressure.

Fair footwear: How to choose wisely
We know style matters, but so does your health. When choosing shoes:
-
Pick breathable, flexible materials that don’t cause friction.
-
Avoid thin heels for long hours. If you wear heels, opt for wide heels with a slight platform.
-
Shoes should fit well—snug but not tight—and allow some toe movement.
-
Wear seamless, thin socks or tights to reduce rubbing.
If you’re going to dance sevillanas…
Great! It’s one of the best parts of the Fair. Just remember:
-
Warm up with ankle movements and gentle stretches before dancing.
-
Wear shoes that provide support (ideally with ankle straps or closed heels).
-
Take breaks to rest and hydrate.
-
Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop.
At home: Recovery care
When you get home, treat your feet to a recovery ritual:
-
Soak them in cool water with sea salt or apple cider vinegar (10–15 minutes).
-
Dry thoroughly between toes and apply a restorative moisturizing cream.
-
Elevate your legs for a few minutes to reduce swelling.
-
If the soles hurt, roll a small ball under your foot for a gentle massage.

Special considerations
-
People with diabetes: Take extra precautions. Any wound or blister must be checked.
-
Elderly or those with reduced mobility: Prioritize comfortable, closed shoes with non-slip soles.
-
Children: Avoid walking barefoot and check their feet when you get home.
