Chiropody

Our feet are the great sufferers of our body, they support our weight, pressures and friction forces inside the shoe.

As a podiatrist in Malaga, I know that undoubtedly one of the most frequent injuries are the appearance of hard skin on the feet (hyperkeratosis) and calluses (helomas). The hardnesses are a protection mechanism of our feet to support the extra pressure in some areas or to support the friction inside the shoe.

The hardness can also show the podiatrist an altered walking pattern, just as a car wears its tires more in one area or another, thus showing that something in the steering or suspension is not going well, the skin lesions that appear on our foot give us clues about an altered biomechanics of the foot.

How is chiropody performed?

With a scalpel we begin by removing the most superficial and hardest layers of the dermal lesion and once we have eliminated almost all the hardness we proceed to file the area with an instrument called a “hand piece” that acts like an electric file to leave the surface smooth and without imperfections. We also proceed in the same act to remove the hard core of the callus so that it stops bothering. IT DOES NOT HURT!…, sure you have asked yourself that.

Does chiropody hurt?

At some moments and with some patients, the removal of the callus may cause some slight discomfort, but it is completely bearable since the pain is minimal and of short duration.

Most patients who come to the podiatrist for the first time do so with fear and almost always have been putting up with the discomfort and pain for a long time. The phrase that would perfectly summarize the patient’s sensations once the act is over would be:

“Why didn’t I come here sooner, with how long I’ve been enduring the pain…Now it doesn’t hurt at all!”

Why go to a podiatrist and not to a beauty salon?

  • Podiatry is a 4-year university degree specializing in treating and diagnosing foot conditions.
  • All the instruments used in the practice undergo a rigorous sterilization control: Ultrasound, sealed in separate bags and hospital use autoclave.
  • In addition to eliminating skin lesions, the podiatrist is able to solve most of the problems you may have with your foot (ingrown toenails, mycosis, papillomas ….). He can advise you better than anyone else on the most important aspects of preventing the onset of your injuries, as well as other necessary treatments to improve the function and health of your foot.
  • In most beauty salons, before starting the treatment, the feet are immersed in a water bath to soften the skin. This type of practice increases infections since there is no sterilization control from one patient to another. Not to mention the instruments used, which do not undergo any adequate sterilization control.

“Your feet deserve the best, put them in the hands of a professional.”
